The malnourished and neglected horses that come to White Feather Foundation receive the best hay and feed. With the proper nutrition, veterinary and farrier care they quickly recover. Hands on personal attention and a natural life of grazing in the pasture brings the horses back to a healthy physical and emotional. The initial habilitation is only one part of what Nathaniel White Feather does.

Some horses are elderly or unsound and they will not become riding horses. However many of the horses are youngsters who arrive emaciated and feral. These creatures often times are unhandled, never been haltered or taught to accept routine and necessary care. These horses receive daily training or retraining using traditional Native American horsemanship. Building trust through consistent training is a central part of the rehabilitation process for these horses.

When a horse has never known the kind touch of a human hand and is fearful of any interaction the process to earn the horses trust is a long road. Native horsemanship is how we build the trust and bonds that make us the horses' trusted partner.

As space and finances allow, each horse goes into training with founder and trainer Nathaniel White Feather. The goal is to get each horse back into themselves by teaching that that they are now safe and loved.

We are committed to these horses for the rest of their lives. Unrideable horses live at the farm until the right home where they can enjoy being a companion comes along. A select few find sanctuary and live out their lives at the ranch. After being adopted, we stay in touch with the horse and new family. It’s not about getting these horses into just any home but also the right home.
